Throughout A Life Repeats, Repeats
Love is as the winter rose
velvet tips in stark repose
with crimson bloom against bone white
fragrance hangs in pale moonlight
Love is as the summer breeze
soft caress or heated tease
with promises upon the wind
that time nor temperature rescinds
Where beauty lies without such things
well caught within the tone of rings
entombed within a lustful gaze
or gifted by a child's embrace
Love is all this and even more
its peal resounds on distant shores
with breadth and depth in every beat
throughout a life repeats, repeats
Rust Ochre and Crimson
lying forlorn
twisted with rust ochre and crimson
a sheen on her cooling remains
each surrender to the setting sun
becomes shorter more defined
and her mood darkens
June has come and gone
and September steels in with
cold fingers crystallizing
golden honey on a spoon
Missing In Action
sitting in a field
empty cornstalks rustling
cold crisp feeling wraps me tight
summer's done
big yellow moon hangs high
peaceful and oblivious to the
changing seasons
her tug only felt as tides
waves of geese
sitting expectantly
their long necks straining
looking south for warmer climes
one two three a dozen suddenly
take to the air enforce
like an arrow pointing the way
their call-to-arms mournful
stragglers fly aimlessly looking
for their corps their squadron
MIA until a temporary commander
swoops by tethering them to his wing
cold straw and forgotten cobs
insects living listlessly before succumbing
a far cry from the fatted birds of summer
their timing and instincts delayed
my flights of fancy earthbound
my wishes tethered to their wings
as they answer the primal beat
of annual migration
