Every Season

Every first blossom, every first autumn leaf,
Every first burst of sunlight, every first snow on a heath,
Faces return as ghosts and as dreams
As a part of each season in circular streams.

The dancers, the lovers, the brazen, the free,
The loners, the restless are all part of me.
That was my season colored in time,
Now every new season is an infinite rhyme.

A day once together, a lifetime summoned apart -
Leave remnants between that cross over one's heart.
Like an old portrait, undusted and viewed,
This is my burden when every season renews.

Do they remember? Is it all to their worth,
When nature heightens and stirs with rapture on earth?
For all blessed changes every season presents,
A unit of beauty endures, yet laments.

And when the elements settle in their seasonal role,
A longing recollects and awakens the soul -
Communion by season, linked to a rhyme,
Captured by reason and thickened with time.
