Writer Buddy
www.writerbuddy.com

This site explores another side to writing other than the usual ‘how to.’ Every writer likes to talk with, or perhaps get help from, people who are writers like themselves: At this site you can get a writing buddy, someone with whom you can do just that. Although this is the sites main purpose, it is not its only purpose.

At first glance, the site may look a bit a confusing, a bit overwhelming. The owners of the site seem to understand those people just starting out and offer a virtual tour to help get acquainted with the site.
As you explore, you learn that there is much to be offered for writers of all ages and all experience.  There are monthly contests, discussion and critique forums, and a guest chat, to name a few.

My Writer Buddy is overwhelmingly packed with much about the writer and the writing world. I highly encourage anyone who enjoys writing to check this site out for themselves as it will truly benefit them.

Mom Writers
www.momwriters.com

This site is truly unique. It is a site dedicated to, and for writers who also carry on the job as a mom. This group knows how important and difficult writing can be with children underfoot, so they dedicate this site to those mothers, to discuss life, children, and family.

Taking a glance at the history of Mom Writers, one might be surprised to see that  it started only a few years back: In 1998, single-handedly by one person, who ironically nobody can remember. As the word got out, mothers from everywhere joined this little group and, taking it one step further, turned it into what now sits in a virtual web space.

This tight Knit group also carries on project such as writing classes, a secret friend exchange, and a book club. They also cater to special events like the raffle and MW Yearbook. You can learn about all the mom writers on the site who have writing, as well as kids to contribute, by looking under the biography section.

This site is definitely not lacking any creativity. The design is made simple, easy to navigate, and pleasing to the eye. There aren’t any overwhelming graphics to take away from the main idea of the website.
They were named in the top “101 Best Websites in 2002” and three years consecutively prior to that. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are named in 2003 as well.

A Writer's Life
www.awriterslife.net

Offering free writing guidance, classes, a writers’ forum, job resources, and a newsletter, this writing site proves to be very resourceful. It carries most of the things a writer looks for in a good website. I’m glad I happened to stumble upon it and will probably use some of its offerings.

One section I liked in particular is the “articles,” which gives you a wide selection of articles to read that are all very helpful to the average writer. You can read about becoming a better writer, overcoming writers block, and tips on how to write the best query letter you can.

The Job Resources page is very helpful for any writer who is looking for work. It names several sites that can help and what each one is about - a big plus. You can also chat it up with other writers, or talk on the message board. Again, this is another site with a simplistic design and setup with very easy navigation.
