The Journal

Journal Keeping for Removing Creative Blocks

The Morning Journal

This journal idea came from the book the Artist’s Way, by Julia Cameron – a book about releasing the artist’s creativity.

The purpose of this journal is to do exactly that: release the creativity in you. It works by unloading all the rubbish you’re holding onto so that the only thing left is purely creative.

By doing this journal, you’ll find yourself writing more frequently and more creatively. The results can be seen on the very first day you do your morning journal.

Start with a blank coil notebook.

When you wake-up in the morning, write the date at the top of the page and then begin writing. Do not pay attention to what you’re writing, just write whatever’s in your head. Unload yourself onto the page. Bitch and moan all you want and don’t worry about spelling, grammar or even legibility.

Do not stop writing until you cannot write anymore, and than force a few more sentences.

When you’re finished writing, close the journal and do not read what you have written. If you wish to reread your entry, wait for at least a month.

Repeat this process every morning in the same way.

Three pages are the recommended length of an entry, but just do what you can; one page is better than no page.

Note how you feel throughout the day since you started your morning journal. Do you feel the words flow from your pen more freely?

Pass this on to someone you know whose been suffering from a creative block, you will be doing them a fantastic favor.
