'Glimpses 2 - It Could Happen To You' is the sequel to Martha Jette's 'Glimpses': True Stories of the Paranormal told by people from around the world who all share one thing in common: they have all experienced some form of paranormal phenomenon in their lives.

Whether it be spirit visitors, psychic glimpses, near-death experiences or UFO sightings, 'Glimpses 2' is brimming from cover to cover with stories to satisfy the cravings of anyone with an interest in the paranormal.

The following is an interview with the author, Martha Jette, who gives us a 'glimpse' into her experience bringing this book into fruition.

MH: From a writer's perspective, what process took place from the decision to create this book and the completion?

MJ: You could say that my first 'Glimpses' was a primer for the sequel, spurred on by my endless desire to know and understand the paranormal realm. When I began soliciting stories for 'Glimpses 2', I was overwhelmed by the responses from so many people with true stories to tell about their experiences. I could have created a huge index of paranormal events, but found that I really had to cut the number off at some point. There are just too many strange things happening to so many people.

MH: What was your favorite part of the process?

MJ: My favorite part of the process was actually hearing all of the strange, but true stories for the first time. Each one was different and totally amazing.

MH: What was the hardest part of the process?

MJ: The most difficult part of the process was actually ending it. I could have gone on forever, as there are so many awesome things happening to people all of the time.

MH: What kind of editing process did the book undergo?

MJ: I am a former newspaper and magazine editor, so I reviewed my own work several times.

MH: How did you go about finding a publisher who is interested in publishing this particular genre?

MJ: Fortunately, I joined Ryze Business Networking about a year and a half ago. On that site, I have made many wonderful connections, as well as plenty of new friends. There are a few publishers on Ryze and I found Saga Books, which is a Canadian publisher.

MH: During the making of this book, did anything 'strange' happen?

MJ: No. Nothing strange happened with this book. However, the first time I tried to write the first 'Glimpses' some years back, I was living in a haunted home. Two weeks into attempting to write it, I suffered appendicitis, contracted pneumonia, my father passed away and several other events occurred during a one-month period. Needless to say, I was more than a little paranoid to try again last year, but fortunately, the timing must have just been right this time as I managed to sail through it unaffected. 'Glimpses 2' presented a wonderful learning experience with no repercussions either.

MH: What did you learn, both as a writer and otherwise, from doing this book?

MJ: I learned that many people are afraid to talk about their paranormal experiences for fear of ridicule from family and friends. In fact, I had to talk a few people into sharing their stories for my book. I also learned about some paranormal occurrences that I did not know existed before, so that was really cool. As a writer, I learned that some people don’t want their stories tampered with and prefer to tell it themselves. There are a few stories in this format in the book. Of course, there are many aspects of writing that I already knew from my experience as a journalist, such as ensuring accuracy of information and presenting the how, what, when, where and why of each situation.

MH: What is the message you want your readers to get?

MJ: First of all, I write about the paranormal to let people know just how much otherworldly activity happens to others just like them every day. My primary goal is to encourage people to speak up, to share their experiences openly with each other and hopefully, one day there will be no ridicule or fear by doing so.

MH: Who is your favorite author and why?

MJ: This will probably sound strange, but one of my favorite authors is Erma Bombeck. I love her lighthearted, true-to-life and entertaining style. I suppose you could say that I need the comic relief sometimes. I am also a fan of Shakespeare, having read many of his works.

MH: What other projects are you working on?

MJ: I have just finished writing my fourth book entitled 'Playing With The Devil'. This book focuses on a family of 12 children in Newfoundland during the 1950’s. It is a true story about the mental, emotional, physical and sexual abuse meted out to them by their mother and her many paramours. However, there are several high profile political, business and judicial characters involved, so I was forced to present with all names changed in the form of a novel based on a true story. As to future books, I am not sure what will come next, but with the writing urge still strong, I am sure something will come up.

MH: Where can we find your book(s)?

MJ: 'Glimpses 2 - It Could Happen To You!,' as well as my children’s book 'Talking To My Angel' are available through Saga Books of Calgary, Alberta (http://www.sagabooks.net). They are also available locally in Hamilton, Ontario at Brian Prince Booksellers in Westdale. 'Playing With The Devil' will also be published through Saga Books.
