April A. Severin is the author of five chapbooks Testimony, Witness, Atatawi (gift), Animal Appeal, andFeast. Her other publishing credits include work in Gatherings - Volume XII: The En'owkin Journal of First North American Peoples (2001),Healing Journey: Poetry and Stories by Participants in the Native Men's Residence Creative Writing Program (2002), and seven consecutive editions of Tower Poetry (the biannual publication of the Tower Poetry Society). In 2002 April received CAGED's Award of Merit in their poetry competition (CAGED is an animal rights group in Hamilton) and a prize for poetry from the CNF (Canadian Nature Federation based in Ottawa).

In the Hamilton area April has participated in Lit Live, the Blue Angel Reading Series, and readings hosted by the Tower Poetry Society and the Hamilton Poetry Centre. In 2001 the Hamilton & Region Arts Council invited her to participate in their Aboriginal Day program. Her poetry and interviews have been aired on McMaster University's CFMU radio and Cable 14 TV.
April has also read her poetry at Eden Mills Writers' Festival, The Art Bar Poetry Reading Series (Toronto), and Niagara Nature Tour's Woodland Wildflower Celebration. Most recently she was a featured guest reader at the Ottawa Public Library and at the inaugural Raven's Calling reading in Cambridge.

A pen pal T.C. has presented April's poems to inmates in the world's largest women's prison in California. April has presented her work to secondary and post-secondary classes in Hamilton, and facilitated a creative writing workshop at the Native Men's Residence in Toronto.

Known for her strong succinct poetry, April focuses on her concern for the Earth, animals, and people as well as the highly personal processes of healing and writing. Her native spirituality and heritage, and love of Nature are evident in her body of work. TANSI, Toronto's aboriginal newspaper published a profile on April in their Aboriginal Day issue.

April A. Severin is also an editorial writer and an employee of the Hamilton Public Library.
